- Make a Checklist
Write down a list of everything you need to do. Create separate lists if you must and organize it how you like. Clothes, hygiene, and food are only a few examples you can use. Make sure this checklist also includes double-checking driving directions, distance and other relevant factors such as whether you may need your own sheets or not.
- Write Down a Plan
Depending on your plan, make a point to figure it out. Whether you are going somewhere alone, with a spouse or with the family and friends, this will all change your plan of action. If there’s a lot of people going, make sure sleeping, food and entertainment arrangements are in place. If it’s more private, make sure to not over do it on spending, as it will not be necessary with only a few people.
- Be Ready Before
The golden rule here is to at least get everything you need the day before. Make an effort to go out and buy any needed non-perishable items first such as booze, shoes or the proper attire. Refer to your checklist and gather all your items in one place. If you are able, you can even pack the car the evening before. Doing so will ensure the next day is smooth sailing, and if you did forget something, it won’t be as much of a setback!
- Buy New Attire
Regardless what you already have, make a point to buy at least one new item. It is the start to another change in season so chances are you are due for at least one piece of attire. If you are hiking, make sure to bring proper shoes and a secure backpack. If you are staying home with friends, go out and get that new shirt you’ve been eyeing at your favourite store.
- Plan for the Worst
In that being said, it doesn’t mean think negatively, but rather enter the weekend playing “you would rather be safe than sorry.” Pack a separate bag for a portable charger, candles, flashlights, towels, blankets, first aid kit and anything else you can think of that could come in handy if an emergency or unplanned circumstances arises.
- Host Accordingly
This means to make sure to do it right. If you are hosting for a specific friend or significant other, keep in mind they need your full attention. If you are not up to this, than don’t bother inviting the company. If you are hosting a party, buy enough food, supplies and anything else. If it’s a large event hire a server, bartender or other event staff to assist you in all your event staffing needs.
- Be Eco-Friendly
Contribute and set the right example by making smart and efficient planning decisions. As mentioned in this article, here are 3 Tips for Hosting an Eco-friendly Event. This will also give you piece of mind and, with proper preparation, not much more of a headache than a regular party.
- Clean Your Space
Make a point to clean your space before you leave for the weekend. Don’t cram it in the evening before, but rather pick a day you can take your time and not feel any other stress. Doing so will clear your mind, and ease your everyday worries. Not only will you feel relaxed while away, but you will come back feeling good once you see the fresh start you left behind.
- Pay Your Bills
Sharing a similar concept to cleaning your space, paying your bills will allow you to fully relax before your time off. Even if you have it in your account already, get online or go to the bank and do what you go to do so that you also avoid the risk of forgetting to pay once you come back! On top of that, you will also feel grateful coming home to a clean slate.
- Be Responsible
Last, but definitely not least, don’t forget to be responsible throughout this whole process. Drive carefully, follow the law and make smart choices when you are finally at your destination. You never know what could happen so the key here is accident prevention in order to ensure a safe and fun weekend.
